Ingredients
  

Christmas Cocoa Base

  • 2 cups whole milk or dairy-free alternative
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar adjust to taste
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt

Optional Toppings

  • marshmallows mini or regular
  • whipped cream
  • crushed candy canes

Instructions
 

  • In a saucepan, whisk together the cocoa powder, sugar, and salt. Slowly add 1/4 cup of milk to create a smooth paste.
  • Gradually pour in the remaining milk, whisking continuously to prevent lumps.
  • Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring frequently, until it is warm but not boiling.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Pour into mugs, top with marshmallows, whipped cream, or crushed candy canes, and enjoy!

Notes

For a festive twist, add a drop of peppermint or almond extract. For a richer flavor, use a mix of whole milk and heavy cream.
